DESCRIPTION
The Coober Pedy is a true Aussie style hat named after Australia's famed source of opals. Featuring a Kangaroo Tail Band with an Authentic Australian Opal, eyelet vents and satin lining. The 83 mm brim has a bound edge. This hat has been Outback Red's best seller for many years with it's traditional and comfortable style.
For over a century, Akubra’s fine felt hats have adorned and
protected generations of Australians. Akubra started out as a small
family operation in Tasmania, and now employs over 90 trades people in
Kempsey, NSW, manufacturing thousands of hats each week.
Over the years Akubra has maintained its ability to be in vogue. Our
hats have become a vital part of Australia’s identity - It's worn by
soldiers, Olympians, politicians, personalities and of course loyal,
everyday countrymen and women. Akubra produces a wide selection of
fur-felt and straw hat styles to suit all people and all occasions, from
Western and Country shapes through to casual and formal fashion hats.
Akubra is the only complete fur-felt manufacturer in
Australia. From the raw rabbit pelt, through to the final hat, each
individual hat passes through more than 100 individual processes.
Absolute care and attention to detail combined with years of experience
enable Akubra to provide the ultimate in quality. Every Akubra Hat is
made from pure rabbit fur felt and depending on the style, the fur-felt
of anywhere from 10 to 14 rabbit pelts make an individual hat. Felt is
the strongest fabric known because every fibre is interlocked in every
direction with a number of other fibres. That’s what makes Akubra Hats
so durable.
Akubra currently manufactures more than 100 individual
styles of hats in a diverse range of popular colours. This us to select
and stock hats appropriate to the preferences of our customers. There is
a style to suit every person and all styles can be worn by both men and
women.
Fitting your Akubra
Heads come in all shapes and sizes, so for an enduring fit with your new Akubra the following points should be considered:
- The sheepskin inner band of the hat may shrink slightly with
use. Do not expect a tight fitting hat to ‘loosen up.' In time, the hat
will conform to your head shape. Initially, a slightly loose fitting
hat can be adjusted using folded tissue placed behind the inner band,
and then removed as the hat conforms. The leather sweatband will begin
to mould to your head shape. When trying a hat on, you will occasionally
find one size too small and the next too big. We suggest that you
purchase the larger one and insert a hat pads or tissue paper inside the
leather sweatband to help the hat fit more snugly.
- Akubra hats are sized and ordered by centimeter
circumference of the wearer’s head. The head is measured using a
measuring tape, wrapped across the bare forehead and just above the
ears. The measurement is rounded up to the next largest full cm (E.G.
57½cm head measurement is ordered as a 58cm hat).
- Do not squeeze the front of your hat when putting it
on your head as this in time will cause a sharp point which will be the
first place the hat will wear prematurely. Tugging the brim to ensure
the fit can spoil the brim if this is done constantly. When not being
worn rest the hat upside down on the crown or hang it on a hat peg.
- To
properly fit a hat, clear all hair away from the forehead and place the
front of the hat (ribbon bow and size to the back) on the head and then
by placing the palm of your hand on the back of the crown, push the hat
down.
